Shaw Heights
Baptist Church was the culmination of a dream by many people,
primarily the congregation of Eastside Baptist Church in Sumter. In
1962, Eastside sent a delegation to survey the area around Shaw Air
Force Base and then bought three acres of land along Highway
441.
There were thirty persons at the first
service of the mission church and it grew over the months until
March 1964, when it constituted as a church with a total of one
hundred and four members.
Over the years Shaw Heights has had a
strong military presence. Now our congregation is made up of
civilians, etired military and active duty military personnel.
Our uniqueness is that active duty military members find a
congegation who understands how deployments affect military
families. We stand ready to assist and help military families
during these times.
We are also praying and looking for
civilian families to come join with
